TVR T350c 2004 3.6 Red Rose LW “Red Rose Lightweight”
For sale at £46,000

Eighteen years ago, Jason Clegg - now MD of Str8six - was working in TVR Blackpool’s engine build division. Peter Wheeler (PW) was the MD of TVR at that time. Top Gear approached PW - interested in investigating a specific issue. They wanted to know if a car running at 180mph would get photographed by a Speed Camera!

PW decided to offer them TVR’s Tuscan 4.0S Press car - but re-equipped with a very special engine. Jason was tasked with maximising a Speed Six 4.0S road engine using off the shelf parts - but optimized and fine-tuned in EVERY conceivable area to achieve max performance and durability.

PW was himself very impressed with the end product’s power and performance. And that engine did enable Top Gear to resolve their 180mph question. (The answer? the camera didn't capture the Tuscan!)

At about this time, PW was being badgered by customers who wanted a “Full House” 4.0 litre S engine - rather than a standard 3.6 litre engine - in their T350s. He refused to sanction this solution for all but a handful of cherished customers. His preferred solution for enhanced T350’s was to keep the 3.6 litre engine - but to have Jason build each one to the developed specification of the engine created for the Press Tuscan. These T350 engines were designated as “Red Rose” specification.

The downside for TVR was that these engines were very time-consuming to engineer and to build - each one consuming a full week of Jason’s time. As a consequence only a very few 3.6 litre-engined T350 “Red Rose” cars were built. All the engines were built by Jason - and he built just seven 3.6 litre powerplants. Downstream, standard 4.0L production engines were fitted to subsequent “Red Rose” T350’s.

A very few of the Red Rose T350’s were fitted with bodies made from light weight Vinylester. A limited edition run of these “Lightweight” cars was manufactured - specially commissioned and endorsed by PW, the Chairman. These cars also featured Tuscan S uprated brakes, exhausts, suspension and Hydratrak differentials - the full “Red Rose” package. LK04 ZHW is one of the 3.6 Litre Red Rose Lightweight cars. So, the advertised car is a VERY special, and VERY rare, TVR!

The fourth owner of this car had been the TVRCC Regional Officer for both Somerset and Devon. He had owned it for six years. During that time, it covered only 6,000 miles and was serviced by his son, an ex TVR and Ferrari mechanic. Str8six agreed to buy LK04 ZHW from him in 2018.

On arrival at Str8six, the engine was immediately extracted for a complete refresh - due to a noise when running cold. This was found to be caused by a rotated cylinder bore liner. This was replaced and a full refresh and upgrade to the latest Str8six specification was carried out. At the same time, a silicone hose kit, and all new oil pipes were fitted. A significant advantage of this operation was that Jason was able to confirm that the engine was a genuine “Red Rose” 3.6 Litre - originally built by him.

In parallel, the car was painted by Surface and Design to return the body to total showroom condition. The car was fitted with Bilstein sports dampers and Eibach springs and also had a new set of Michelin Pilot sport tyres fitted. The interior was fully re-carpeted and the whole car returned to A1 technical specification.

LK04 ZHW was then bought - “sight unseen” - by its most recent owner, on 10 May 18. This was the third TVR he had bought from Str8six. It was duly delivered to him in Scotland on Str8six’s transporter. It had 27,997 miles on the clock and needed to continue its 1,000 miles running in process. True to form, the fifth owner’s T350 RR L/W lived under cover in dry storage in his commercial boatyard, and was used only on ‘Dry Days and Holidays’.

Then, after 4 years, he asked us if we would buy the car back as he wanted to close a house purchase deal. Jason duly flew to Scotland and drove LK06 ZHW 400 miles back to our base at Lewknor. The 1,000 miles “Running In“ process was finally completed on the way back down from Scotland.

There is little point in running through the external and intermal colourways as the comprehensive photos show these - and the superb condition of the whole car inside and outside.

The car is now ready to be driven considerately to its next home. Yours perhaps? It will come to you having completed our Market-Leading “All the 12s“ sales process. This includes:
FULL 12,000 mile service, 12 months TAX, 12 months MOT and 12 months/12,000 miles “no quibble”, FULL WEAR and TEAR, PARTS and LABOUR WARRANTY. In addition, the car is equipped with a 12 volt battery trickle charger and an Anderson 12 volt jump lead.

If you are hankering after a unique and fully prepared, presented and documented TVR heirloom, we would suggest that a visit to Oxfordshire on a sunny day might kick-start your 2022 “Bucket List”! (But do please note that a test drive of this very special car will only take place to confirm a buying decision).
